Lone Pine Koala Research Centre one step closer!
Thursday, 12 October 2017
Exciting news with Council approving development plans for our new world-class koala research centre! The research centre will be delivered in partnership with Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary at Fig Tree Pocket, and will be an opportunity for scientists involved in conservation to learn more about disease and genetic issues challenging our local koala populations.
This exciting project is a part of an election committment I made with Lord Mayor Graham Quirk to boost local koala conservsation and make help future-proof populations across South East Queensland.
Council will invest up to $2 million in the development of this state-of-the-art facility, as well as a further $1.3 million over four years to assist scientific research operations.
Construction on the centre is expected to start in the next few months, with the facility expected to open in late 2018.
