Councillor Julian Simmonds' 16/17 Budget Newsletter
Monday, 27 June 2016
Lord Mayor Graham Quirks 2016-17 budget will enable the delivery of a key election commitment for the Walter Taylor Ward with more than $2.2million to transform the historic Witton Barracks site at Indooroopilly into a new district park and community hub.
Last year I worked with the Federal Government to ensure Council purchased this site as it features prominently in Council’s local Neighbourhood Plan and as part of my plan to deliver new infrastructure as our suburb grows.
The funding will enable the current buildings on site to be restored for community use, for the installation of park equipment and for the historical site to be opened to the public.
In addition to this almost 2 hectares of new open public space, design work will commence on a new bikeway link from the Witton Barracks park site to Radnor street and along the river front to Witton Road.
This allocation is part of the 2016-17 budget delivering $19 million towards the Lord Mayor’s $100 million commitment to constructing key bike-way links in Brisbane suburbs in order to reduce traffic congestion and encourage active travel.
Attached is a comprehensive newsletter on what we are delivering for Walter Taylor Ward and greater Brisbane this financial year.
