Investigation works - Gailey Road and Sir Fred Schonell Drive
Thursday, 5 April 2018
Brisbane City Council is planning to undertake investigation works in the area surrounding the Gailey Road and Sir Fred Schonell Drive intersection in St Lucia to inform design options for a potential future upgrade of the intersection.
This work is part of Council's $1.3 billion commitment to more than 90 road improvement projects to take real action on congestion, by focusing on a range of solutions to improve the existing road network, getting residents home quicker and safer. The Gailey Road and Sir Fred Schonell Drive intersection has experienced a relatively high crash rate in recent years, with 19 crashes occurring between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2017.
Council will undertake the investigation works in the area surrounding the intersection and the works will involve topographic and environmental surveys, geotechnical investigation and identification of public utility service locations.
Council plans to undertake investigation works during the month of April 2018, weather permitting. These works will predominantly be undertaken from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7am and 5pm. Some night works may also be required to ensure the safety of road users and workers and to minimise disruptions.
Further information about the project will be provided to local residents and business as the design progresses. The timing of construction for this projects is dependent on future budget allocation.
